Meneito 29: The Last One

On today’s episode we say goodbye to our little meneitos! We’re on the verge of redesigning our format and have decided it’s time to move on from these mini-episodes. But we’ve got one last for you where we talk about the songs we are digging right now. As usual, it’s an eclectic mix–throwback Bronx bachata, queer Latin trap, Latinx pop and a tropical jam.

We’re also asking you to take a few minutes to give us some feedback about our show! We’d love to know what you like, what you don’t like, what you want to see more of. Take a few minutes to fill out this survey and we’ll send you a free Radio Menea sticker as a thank you.

Featuring music by Xtreme, Kevin Fret, Bacilos and Cimafunk.

Episode 68: La Nueva Canción

This week we’re getting historical, and exploring the Latin American folk music movement that was La Nueva Canción. Fueled by leftist politics and the integration of indigenous musical elements and instruments, La Nueva Canción produced incredible and inspirational folk music across the region and continues to influence the music we love today.

***Also, we had a math struggle this epi! Violeta Parra was born in 1917, so she was actually in her 50s when she died, not in her 30s! Thank you Christina for pointing it out 🙂

Featuring music by Violeta Parra, Carlos Varela, Atahualpa Yupanqui, Ali Primera, Lourdes Pérez and Victor Jara.

Episode 67: Bad Bunny’s X 100PRE

The baddest conejo of them all blessed us with a surprise album on Nochebuena — and tbh we haven’t stopped listening since. This week we’re dedicating the whole episode to this already-legendary album. We bring a few of our favorite songs and dissect everything from the extremely bold production choices (Dios bendiga a Tainy!) to a newly-emerging political bunny. For real for real? Bad Bunny X 100PRE!!!!
